New riverside walk between the Inn and the old town opens
The renovated Inn promenade now connects the baroque old town seamlessly with the Innstadt district — step-free and with new viewpoints over the turquoise waters of the Inn.
Passau has opened its newly designed Inn promenade to the public. The roughly 1.5-kilometre riverside path runs from the Schanzl bridge along the Inn to the Mariahilf church, closing the last gap in the continuous river loop around the old-town peninsula. New seating steps at the water's edge, shade-giving trees and barrier-free access invite visitors to linger, while striking viewpoints open up vistas of the opposite Innstadt district with the Mariahilf pilgrimage monastery. The city has also reinforced the path against flooding — an important issue in the City of Three Rivers, where the Danube, Inn and Ilz regularly rise. The promenade is part of a long-term concept to make the riverbanks more accessible again.
